Obituary of Shelley J. Mallard

Shelley J. Mallard was born on July 27, 1944, in Blakely, GA to the late Alexander Coleman Banks (Native American Indian) and Mary Francis Banks (Jamaican Descendant). She was called home to be with the Lord on June 9, 2026.

At the age of 14, following the passing of her father, Shelley moved with her mother and three siblings to Orlando, FL, where she spent her formative years. There, she met and married her high school sweetheart, Stone Mallard. Their union lasted more than thirty years and was blessed with two daughters, Shirl Green and the late Mary Mallard.

Shelley shared a particularly close bond with her youngest daughter, Mary. Following Mary's passing in 2000, Shelley carried the loss deeply in her heart. Though the pain never completely faded, her love for her daughter remained a lasting testament to the strength of a mother's devotion.

Shelley dedicated more than 46 years of her life to the nursing profession. She was known for her compassion, dedication, and commitment to caring for others. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her work, touching the lives of family, friends, and all who knew her.

A faithful member of Union Baptist Church in Bordentown, Shelley served her church with generosity and unwavering support. She also contributed to children's hospitals for more than 35 years, reflecting her deep love for children, whom she often described as gifts from God.

Around the age of 65, Shelley was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and dementia. During her later years, she was lovingly cared for by her oldest daughter, Shirl, who remained faithfully by her side until the end. Shelley affectionately called her daughter "Mammy," a reflection of the special bond they shared and the loving care she received.

Shelley was known for her feisty spirit, quick wit, determination, and strong will. While she enjoyed having things done her way, she possessed a generous heart and never hesitated to open her home to family members in need. Her kindness, strength, and unwavering love for her family will forever be remembered.

Shelley leaves to cherish her memory her devoted daughter, Shirl Green; her beloved son-in-law, Randy L. Green; her siblings; extended family members; and a host of friends and loved ones.

Shelley shared a unique and special bond with her son-in-law, Randy. Their relationship was often filled with spirited disagreements and playful exchanges, creating what many would describe as a love-hate relationship. Yet beneath it all was a deep affection and mutual respect that never wavered. Shelley lovingly referred to Randy as "my buddy" and often considered him a son. Whenever they were apart, it became clear how much they truly missed one another. Their bond was a testament to the love, loyalty, and connection they shared throughout the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alexander Coleman Banks (Native American Indian) and Mary Francis Banks (Jamaican Descendant), and her beloved daughter, Mary Mallard.

Shelley J. Mallard's life was a testament to love, faith, service, and perseverance. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will be cherished forever.
