Obituary
On June 4, 2025, Patrick Joseph Hurley reluctantly left this world for his next adventure. LeeAnn, his wife of 41 years and his children Katie, Ryan and Emily were with him throughout his illness.
Patrick was born in Baltimore, MD on May 7, 1960. He loved life from the start and was known as a toddler for visiting his neighbors unannounced and singing songs for them. After moving to New Jersey, the woods, sand pits and river that stretched for miles behind the house were his playground, and his dirt bikes were prized possessions. Skills he learned in the Boy Scouts (knots, fire making, cooking, camping, shelter building, and compass and map reading) were used in one way or another almost every day of his life. He loved mountains, forests and lakes, avoided cities and was a natural leader.
Patrick started working for a neighbor’s company installing rolling steel doors at 16 and by the age of 18 he started his own business. Today, Durable Door Company is run by his brother, James, & his son, Ryan.
He was exceptional in his intelligence and his ability to confidently carry out his plans. Loyalty, doing things well (or not at all) and keeping his word were the principles he lived by. Patrick was a person whom everyone asked for directions because he knew how to get anywhere. He preferred mountaintops, forests, and lakes to large groups of people. He was a man of action and camping, skiing, snowmobiling, water skiing, fishing and building things were his preference. He loved his family, rock & roll, his sauna, and chopping wood.
Patrick is survived by his wife LeeAnn, his children Katie Picinich and his son-in-law Justin Picinich, his son Ryan Hurley and his wife Lindsey Liefken, his daughter Emily Hurley, and his grandchildren Henri, Hayes and Rowan Hurley, and Aiden, Emma and Liam Picinich, and his siblings Kathy Hurley, Mary Hurley, James Hurley, and Susan de Fazio and his brother-in-law Mark de Fazio, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Patrick's life will be celebrated by family & friends on June 22 at Jefferson House in Lake Hopatcong, NJ between 12-4pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to MPN research Foundation or Alzheimers Foundation of America.
