Obituary
Mark Barrett Hamel
December 18, 1952 – May 17, 2025
Mark Barrett Hamel, 72, of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away peacefully in the loving embrace of his family. Born on December 18, 1952, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Mark lived a life rich with music, laughter, and devotion to those he loved most.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mary Jane Hamel. Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Patti Kuehl; his brother Edward Hamel and sister Nancy Hamel; 2 daughters, Leah Houle and Nealee (Olin) Morrison; his step daughters, Amy (Steve) Damrow and Amber (Joshua) Olm; his cherished grandchildren, Vivienne Houle, Edee and Barrett Morrison, and Abbie Kaiser. He is also survived by his niece, Alicia Taylor, many special cousins.
Mark had a deep passion for music—he played both the piano and the flute and sang in the Maple Leaf Singers. He found joy in dancing, swimming, camping, boating, and being on the water. Whether traveling or simply enjoying time at home, his greatest happiness came from sharing life with his wife and family.
Mark will be remembered as the undeniable life of the party—never one to miss a beat, a dance floor, or a chance to make an entrance. His vibrant energy, quick wit, and joyful spirit had a way of turning even the simplest gathering into an unforgettable event. He left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
The family would like to thank the kind and caring staff at Empath Tidewell Hospice of Port Charlotte.
There will be a private family celebration of life at a later date.
