Obituary

Margaret “Eleanor” Levins, of Edison, New Jersey, passed away on October 10, 2026, at JFK Hospital in Edison, New Jersey, at the age of 97. Born on June 7, 1929, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, Eleanor made Edison her home for most of her life.

She was the devoted wife of the late George Joseph “Curley” Levins, who owned and operated Curley’s Corner in Fords, New Jersey. Curley predeceased her on August 10, 2004. Eleanor was also preceded in death by her son, George Levins, who passed away on August 16, 2025.

A loving mother and grandmother, Eleanor is survived by her daughter-in-law, Phyllis Levins; her grandchildren, George Levins and Aimee Levins; and her great-grandson, Rowan Levins-Dawson.

For many years Eleanor worked as a secretary for the Edison Board of Education, serving at several schools across the township before retiring from James Monroe Elementary School. Colleagues and families alike knew her as steady, kind, and always ready to help.

Those who loved her will especially remember the way she gathered everyone around the table. Eleanor delighted in hosting the family for Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, and Easter. Her famous stuffed cabbage was a highlight of those meals—she would spend hours carefully rolling and stuffing what often seemed like a hundred of them so no one would leave hungry. The time and care she put into those dinners were a clear expression of how much family meant to her.

She also treasured quieter escapes: long vacations in the Adirondacks with both immediate and extended family at the Melody Manor in Lake George, New York, and day trips to Atlantic City with Curley to enjoy the slots.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace in Fords, New Jersey. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. at William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Wrightstown, New Jersey 08562.
