Obituary

Joan Walker, 86, of Toms River NJ, passed away on February 13, 2025. Born and raised in Newark, she moved to Union in 1966. After retirement, she moved to Toms River.

Joan graduated from St. Vincent Academy High School in Newark and spent her career working at Brounell, Kramer, Waldor Insurance Agency in Union. Later on, she worked at Brown and Brown in Florham Park.

Joan was very involved in the lives of her sons and grandchildren. She was an ardent supporter of the various teams that her sons played for and could always be found in the stands cheering them on. She was also a den mother for her son’s Cub Scout pack.

Joan always enjoyed spending time with family, especially family parties and the annual extended family gathering at the Waikiki and Armada hotels in Wildwood. She enjoyed shopping, going out to dinner and spending time with her many close friends. She also loved to travel and went on many fun vacations with her beloved sister Dot.

She was preceded in death by her parents Gerard and Grace Bruns, a brother Gerard Jr. and her dear son Christopher Walker.

Joan is survived by her loving family; son Greg and his wife Theresa of Old Bridge and daughter in law Susan Walker of Toms River. Her grandchildren Anthony Walker, Danielle Walker, Liam Walker and Molly Walker. She is also survived by her sister Dorothy Coakley of Hamilton Township as well as her niece and nephews and her supportive former husband Jack Walker of New Providence.
