Joan A. Knapp, 93, of Pompton Plains, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026.
Born on April 13, 1933, in Pequannock, New Jersey, Joan was the daughter of Henry and Emily Wachtmann. She lived a life centered on family, service, and generosity, touching the lives of all who knew her.
Joan devoted her career to teaching kindergarten, where she found great joy in nurturing and encouraging young children. Outside of the classroom, she was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking, baking, knitting, and crocheting. She was especially known for her beautiful gardens, homemade cookies and treats, and the countless baby blankets, hats, and booties she lovingly created for family, friends, and newborns at her local hospital.
Nothing brought Joan greater happiness than spending time with her family. She cherished hosting Christmas celebrations and her annual pool parties, creating lasting memories for generations of family and friends. Her home was always a welcoming place filled with warmth, laughter, and love.
Joan was the beloved wife of the late Robert "Bob" Knapp. She is survived by her loving children, Susan, Scott (Fran), and Steven; her cherished grandson, Bobby; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Emily Wachtmann; her sisters, Emily (Andrew) and Helen (James); and her brother, Henry (Mary).
Joan will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, creativity, and unwavering love for her family. Her gentle spirit and thoughtful nature will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
A memorial service and celebration of Joan's life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, the Pequannock First Aid Squad, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or a charity of one's choice.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered their love, prayers, and support during this difficult time. Joan's memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
