Obituary
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our kind, caring, generous mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Dorothy Rose Lynch, (nee Sandstrom) age 92, of Pitman, NJ and previously of Ocean City, NJ, who passed away on March 21, 2025, of natural causes. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, John Patrick Lynch as well as two brothers, Arthur Sandstrom and Jack Sandstrom.
Dorothy was born on June 11, 1932 to Arthur and Helen Sandstrom in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Little Flower Catholic High School in 1950 where she played cello and piano in the orchestra and attended practice every day after school. Music was always a big part of her life growing up. She graduated from Duquesne University in 1956 with a degree in education. At Duquesne, she was very active in plays and shows in the theater there.
In 1957, Dorothy met John in Ocean City and they married the following year. They went on to have 8 children, Dan, Donnajean (Bob), Doreen, Terry, Chris (Andrea), Melissa, Allyson (Ed), and Beverly (Oneil). They have 10 grandchildren, Tara, Ashley, Darren, Ian, Hollis, Hailey, Lucas, Isabella, Louis and Sadie, and 4 great grandchildren, Sincere, Ocean, Ellis and Emery, and many nieces and nephews. She is survived by all of her children and grandchildren.
Dorothy stayed at home for many years taking care of her eight children and later worked in the office of Raymond Insurance Agency. In 1998 she and John moved full time to their favorite place, Ocean City, NJ. She was very active in their church, St Augustine, and helped sell religious articles after Sunday Mass and volunteered at the Catholic Charities thrift store to raise money for various charities. She and John also assisted with wedding rehearsals that were held at St Augustine’s and were active in various fundraising activities. She leaves behind good friends who were parishioners there and came to visit her and bring communion.
Dorothy loved spending time at the beach with friends and family. She claimed we all had “Sand in our shoes”. We will remember her many sayings: “We roll with the punches”, Keep your chins up”, “The show must go on", and her favorite: “Eat, drink and be merry”. She truly believed it was always “five o’clock somewhere” and she loved a good happy hour.
Her memory will live on in the lives of her children. She will be missed by all of us every day.
