John Robert (Jack) Cooney peacefully passed away on Friday, January 26th surrounded by his family after a brief illness. Born December 22, 1948 in New York City, Jack is survived by his wife, Carol (Allen), sons Christopher (Amanda) and Shaun (Jennifer) and grandson Declan. Jack is also survived by his brother Thomas (Linda), Sisters Margaret (Joseph) and Eileen (Mark). Brother-in-law to Collins (Linda) Allen and Lynne Dominianni, as well as Uncle to nieces Lorraine, Mary and Lara, and nephews Steven, Vincent, Perrin, and Ross. Jack was preceded in heaven by his mother and father Frances (Dalzell) and Thomas Cooney as well as his brother James. While we lost our most beloved husband, dad, grandfather, brother, uncle, great uncle and cousin, many have lost a great friend. He was a rock to many, a master of sharp humor and witty timing, and always by your side when you needed him. He was a stand-in father, handyman, gardener, golfer, chef…the list goes on. For the last decade Jack enjoyed his retirement after 45 years of service with Sears. Jack and Carol, married for almost 53 years, have called Lake Hiawatha, New Jersey their home since 1974. A celebration of Jack’s amazing life will be held in the near future.
