Obituary

Rochelle (Shelly) Lubetkin-Perillo passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Sunday, February 8, 2026, after a courageous battle with breast cancer.

Shelly was truly a force of nature — vibrant, magnetic, and impossible not to love. For ten years, she proudly served as the “Big Boss” at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a title she embraced so completely that even her email signature read “ladyboss.” She brought energy, humor, and heart to everything she touched, inspiring colleagues and friends alike.

She was the light of my life, always encouraging my more reserved nature to loosen up, take chances, and have more fun. Most will remember her infectious laugh — the kind that filled a room and instantly drew people in. Shelly was a true go-getter who approached life with enthusiasm, confidence, and fearless joy.

Together, we traveled the world, enjoying countless cruises and adventures across Europe, Australia, South America, and Mexico. Our standing joke with fellow travelers was that every trip was “free,” because we were spending our children’s college fund and their inheritance. Of course, we had no children — which made the joke all the sweeter.

We were well known in almost every diner in New Jersey and many of the state’s finest restaurants. We dined out so often that at one point, we half-seriously considered selling the stove.

Shelly was my soulmate and my best friend. Life will never be the same without her, and I will miss her beyond words.

Shelly lived fully, loved deeply, and left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Chuck, her forever loving husband

I had the privilege of working for Shelly as a house cleaner. She always had a beautiful smile and a wonderful sense of humor that made being around her a joy. I will always remember her laughter and kindness. My thoughts are with her family

To know Shelly was to be swept up in a whirlwind of energy and light. She wasnt just a person you met she was someone you collided with in the most beautiful wayfull speed, with no apologies and a heart that was always wide open. Shelly was the definition of effervescent, possessing a rare ability to turn an ordinary Tuesday into an adventure and a quiet room into a celebration with nothing more than her infectious laughter. She was a woman of iron-willed tenacity, a 'survivor' who faced lifes storms with a dauntless spirit that refused to be dimmed. Yet, for all her formidable strength, she was also a refuge. She was the friend who saw the 'real, messy' version of you and loved it even more, the one who could pull you out of a hole with a single look. Shelly lived big and loved loud, leaving a trail of beautiful memories that now serve as our comfort. Though the song has ended, her radiant melody lingers in every heart she touched, most certainly in mine.

Charlie, in your tender caring of Shelly you were a vessel of God's love to her. He commands. . . Husbands, you in turn must treat your wives with tenderness, viewing them as feminine partners who deserve to be honored, for they are co-heirs with you of the divine grace of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers. AND Let every husband be filled with cherishing love for his wife and never be insensitive toward her. Charlie, you were God's gift to Shelly. She was blessed to have you loving her.

Although your time together may have seemed too short, you filled it with laughter and love. Some people never find what you both shared. Shelly will be your Guardian Angel, embracing you until you are with her again.

The Heavens have gained a bright new star through the passing of Shelly Perillo! This rare and quintessential joyous force of nature in the form of a striking beautiful woman has already shaken up the universe of all the minions who knew and loved her. At the top of the list, she left a devastated husband, who will never know joy with such intensity and magnitude in this lifetime. This loving spontaneous free-spirited woman has led a cavalcade of vacations and cruises that took our loving cousin Chuck Perillo on a magic carpet journey filled with wonder and laughter. I know my wife Enid and I will sorely miss her with all the so many that loved her. She could never find a more loving and devoted husband than our amazing cousin

We shall never forget the hospitality extended to both Isabel and I when we escaped from Vermont and were stranded in Shelly and Chuck's 'Eisenhower Suite' for a week after Hurricane Irma. Shelly did the cooking for most of the meals except to the tour we had of the local diners including the famous Skylark. Shelly was always the one to find the best seat in the house and if the food was substandard for anyone, she was quick to exclaim, 'Send it Back!' Who can forget Shelly's smile, laughter, and the brightness in her eyes when the 'Shelly Temple' cocktail was invented in her honor. Shelly's love for animals was never ending. When she visited us in South Florida both the Jungle Island and Palm Beach zoos were mandatory and immensely enjoyed. Thanks for the laughter and the smiles Shelly, and the love you shared with Chuck. We will remember you always.
