Obituary

Patricia Ann Austin Steele, 73, of Millerstown, Pennsylvania, passed away on August 26, 2026. She was born on September 24, 1952, in San Diego, California, to Ann H. Austin and Elwood H. Austin.

Patricia grew up in State College, Pennsylvania, as the eldest of six daughters, surrounded by the love and energy of her sisters: Brenda, Sandy, Susan, Karen, and Sharon. She attended State College Area High School, graduating in 1970, and later began a long and dedicated career as an administrative secretary with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg.

In midlife, Patricia experienced a profound deepening of her Christian faith -- one that reshaped her life and became central to who she was. Her relationship with God grew into a source of strength, purpose, and compassion, influencing the way she cared for others, prayed for those in need, and lived out her calling as a mother, friend, and encourager.

On June 11, 1988, Patricia married Robert Steele, and together they shared 38 years of devotion, partnership, and family. Patricia was a loving mother to her children: Lori Steele Allen, wife of Terry Allen; Micah Austin Steele; Kayla Ruth Steele; Anna Faith Steele; and Hana Grace Steele. She was a proud grandmother to Nolan Austin Steven McDermott, Jeremiah James Holman, and Zachariah Joel Holman. Patricia is also survived by her sisters: Brenda A. Mancinelli, Sandra A. Matier, Susan A. Dengler, Karen A. Keller, and Sharon A. Rozema.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ann Hotchkiss Austin; her father, Elwood Howard Austin; and her beloved daughter, Leslie Ann Steele McDermott, who passed away on June 1, 2026.

Patricia’s faith became the defining thread of her later years. She lived out her beliefs through compassion, prayer, and a heart that was always turned toward those who were hurting. She cared deeply for people and animals, often stepping in quietly and sacrificially to help. She found joy in caring for her family and pets, researching genealogy, and educating others—including home educating her children, which she viewed as both a calling and a ministry. Her strong faith guided her daily life, and she was known for praying earnestly for others, offering encouragement, and sharing hope wherever she could.

Friends and family will forever cherish her quiet spirit, warm hugs, and gentle, caring nature. Patricia was a devoted member of Life Center Ministries, where she found meaning, community, and spiritual connection. Her church family was an important part of her life, and her faith remained steadfast through every season.

Patricia touched countless lives through adoption, kindness, prayer, and unwavering dedication. Her legacy of faith, love, and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
