Obituary
Frederick Arthur Devin, 84, of Lorida, Florida, passed away peacefully in his home on April 25, 2026.
He was born on June 26, 1941, in Hartford, Connecticut, to Rene and Rita Devin. He was raised in Windsor, Connecticut, alongside his five siblings.
In 1965, he relocated to Delray Beach, Florida. Fred dedicated over 30 years of service to the Palm Beach County School Board. During that time, he also volunteered at the Palm Beach County Fairgrounds Speedway as part of the Broom Crew, often bringing along his two eldest daughters, De and Michele, and other loved ones to be part of his “crew.” His love for racing extended far beyond the track, as he spent countless weekends watching NASCAR races, both on television and in person.
Fred was a skilled carpenter. He learned his craft from his father, who was also a carpenter and contractor. Fred built his own home from the ground up in Port St. Lucie, Florida. A true testament to his dedication and craftsmanship. After retiring, he continued to give back by volunteering three years at St. Sebastian River Preserve State Park before eventually relocating permanently back to Okeechobee. Aside from being gifted in carpentry skills he had an assortment of hobbies including riding motorcycles, beekeeping, fishing, camping, photography, and grafting hybrid hibiscus. He had a natural gift for music, quickly learning any instrument he picked up, with a particular love for the guitar. Even without reading music, he could play songs effortlessly by ear. He approached every passion with dedication and wholehearted commitment.
He cherished the simple joys in life, especially riding his tractors with little ones tucked safely in his lap, creating memories that will be held close forever. He had a true collector’s spirit and found so much happiness in searching for hidden treasures, spending countless special moments wandering antique shops hand in hand with his wife, Shirley.
Fred met the love of his life, Shirley Devin, and they married on February 4, 2008. Over 18 wonderful years together, they created a lifetime of memories through their travels and shared adventures, each moment deepening the love they held for one another. That same year, they welcomed their youngest daughter, Alexis, through adoption. Fred approached his family, as he did all his passions, with deep love, unwavering commitment, and a generous heart.
Fred leaves behind a lifetime of love, laughter, and memories that will be cherished forever. Though he is deeply missed, his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him most.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 18 years, Shirley Devin; his daughters, Deana Devin, Michele Wise (Leroy), and Alexis Devin (Daniel); his brother, David Devin (Sally); as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren all of which brought him endless joy.
