Obituary

Florence T Sagurton (nee Connors), age 97, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, after a full and happy life. Born on July 24, 1928 in Queens, NY, to Florence Sullivan Connors and Michael J. Connors, Florence spent her childhood in Brooklyn, NY and Leonardo, NJ. While attending Red Bank Catholic High School, Florence (Lil’ Bits) met the love of her life, J. Robert (Bob) Sagurton. Lil’ Bits and Bob enjoyed over 72 years of marriage before his passing in 2021.

Florence raised four children in Little Silver and on the beaches of Sandy Hook and Sea Bright. She loved the beach, the ocean, pools, swimming and especially loved being a mom. As the grandchildren arrived, she spent lots of her time going to their games and activities and hosting her grandchildren for special times at her Jersey Shore home.

She loved a party, and with her husband, Bob, they lit up the dance floor anytime music was playing. She had lifelong friends that gathered regularly to play bridge and socialize. Her siblings, and their children, were just as important throughout her life. As she continued to outlive her contemporaries, she remained special to their children, and they, to her.

Florence was predeceased by her brothers; Tom, Richard, Michael, and Robert Connors and her beloved daughter-in-law, Betty Sagurton. One of seven siblings, Florence is survived by her sister, Joan Hayes and brother, Edward Connors; her children, J. Michael Sagurton (Iryna), Patricia Campbell (Joseph), Nancy Buckwalter (Wayne), and J. David Sagurton (Debra), her grandchildren Elizabeth Petrides (Matthew), Robert Sagurton (Mariele), Brian Buckwalter, Elise Buckwalter, Christine Crable (Kevin), Corinne Schell (Jayson), Jeffrey Sagurton, and her great grandchildren, James Petrides, Chloe Petrides, Jack Crable, Palmer Schell, Emily Crable and Luca Sagurton.

A memorial mass to celebrate her life will be held at St. James Catholic Church at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 13, 2026. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice in Florence’s name.
