Obituary

Chaufan Ou, age 78, passed away on April 11, 2026, in Monroe Township, NJ. Born on December 24, 1947, he grew up in Taiwan and spent most of his life in metropolitan New York.

Chaufan was a contemporary artist. The “South as a Place of Changes” exhibition at KMFA, 2023-2024, showcased his pioneering in minimalist industrial art. His creative vision was also demonstrated in his construction projects, revitalizing the places.

He attended Tainan First High School and studied fine arts at National Taiwan Normal University, Adelphi University, and City College of CUNY.

He is survived by his wife Jyh-Meei Jong, sisters Minsu Fung and Helen Liao, sister-in-law Yali Huang, and nieces Stephen and Min Ou. Chaufan was preceded in death by his parents, DuanZhang Ou and YiFen Hang, and his brother Chihfan Ou.

Chaufan's life reflected his beliefs in the Buddha’s original teachings. His legacy continues not only through his art but also through the love and memories cherished by his family and friends.
