Obituary

On Monday June 22nd, Barbara Sayers Ady, loving wife, mother, and dear friend to many passed away at the age of 92. Barbara was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Born in Roanoke, Virginia, to Rex and Catherine Sayers, Barbara’s family lived in several states, due to her father’s assignments with the N&W Railroad. These moves taught Barbara self-confidence in making new friends and how to adapt easily to change.

After attending college at Queens College and then graduating from Ohio State University with a BA in Education, Barbara began teaching first grade in Columbus, OH. During this time, she met the love of her life, Donald Wilson Ady, at a church event. Married in 1957, the couple lived and worked in Ohio, New York and North Carolina, and eventually moved to Summit, New Jersey, where Barbara worked in the Morristown School District as a first-grade teacher for 27 years.

While she very much enjoyed her teaching career as well as attending church, traveling and playing bridge, nothing meant more to her than her family. A lifelong learner, Barbara gracefully shared her beautiful smile, endless patience and kind heart, bringing joy and comfort to everyone who had the good fortune to know her.

Preceded in death by her devoted husband of 66 years, her sister Violet Hauenstein, brothers Jerry, Wayne and Jack Sayers, as well as niece Jennifer Lynn Hauenstein and nephews Joel and Cory Sayers, Barbara is survived by her daughter Kimberly, her son Scott, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.
