Obituary

Alonzo Hickerson, Al and Zo as he’s known by many, was born on March 12, 1967 in Philadelphia, Pa. to Alonzo and Dorethea Hickerson, who both preceded him in death, as well as his sister, Melody Eugene and uncle, Ernest Edwards.

Alonzo closed his eyes in death on February 16, 2025. Zo was educated in the Philadelphia School System where he graduated from Ben Franklin High School and he also took several college courses. Zo moved to Reno, Nevada where he met Marcie and her two daughters. He and Marcie fell in love and were married.

In his early teenage years, Zo worked with children. He started coaching youths at the age of 16. Zo worked for multiple recreational centers and youth programs. Just to name a few, The Rec Center, Connie Mack, R. W. Brown, Martin Luther King Center and Hank Gathers Center.

Zo’s love of people moved him to be a foster parent to many children over the years. He provided guidance and direction in their lives to give them a sense of stability. Any and all who knew him knew that Zo helped as many kids as he could. No one was left out. If they wanted to get on a positive path, he made sure of it. He would give of himself and whatever he had for the kids he mentored. Zo is survived by his wife Marcie Hickerson, his stepmother: Emily Hickerson, his sister: Stacey Hickerson, step family; Willie Treadwell Sharon Treadwell, Sherry Treadwell, Wendy Treadwell and brother: Eric Treadwell. He also leaves behind nephews: Jarrell Eugene, Angelo Smith, Lamar Smith (wife Tasha), Rashee Hickerson (wife Ericka), Hakeem Williams (wife Jasmine), cousins: Alfair Holmes (Pumpkin) (husband Robbie), Michelle (Toni) Edwards, Tamika Mitchell, Jacob Mitchell (JJ), and dear friend: Rasheed Odrick, as well as his sports family and a host of other friends and relatives that will deeply miss him.

Alonzo’s family would like to thank everyone for their love, support, cards, flowers, donations and prayers.
