Michael Anthony Scarlatelli, a loving husband and father, passed away on October 25 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born on September 13, 1947, in Bloomfield, New Jersey, and was a devoted son to Angelina (née Macaluso) and Carmine Scarlatelli. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 53 years, Virginia Scarlatelli (née Stewart), and their two sons, Adam and his wife Stacy MacTaggert, and Evan and his wife Monica Pastores. He is also survived by his brother, Anthony Scarlatelli and his wife Deborah, and his cherished granddaughter, Cora Scarlatelli. Michael’s successful career in the personal care chemical industry took him around the country to meet with clients and even led him and his family to relocate to Germany. For 32 years, he called Long Valley, New Jersey, home, where he was a respected member of the Jaycees. He founded the Schooleys Mountain Challenge, an annual race held in honor of his close friend who died of cancer. He also coached youth recreational soccer teams and the track team, where he had the joy of coaching his own sons. Retiring to Long Beach Island in 2009, Michael continued his active lifestyle, serving as treasurer of the Beach Haven Yacht Club. Michael loved sports. He ran track and played football during his high school years, and later spent countless hours perfecting his golf game and fishing on the beach in Loveladies. He was also an avid fan, watching baseball, football, tennis and golf whenever he could. A true Yankee fan at heart, he enjoyed summer nights on the back deck, rum and cigar in hand, listening to the games on the radio. Michael will be remembered for the love he had for his family and friends. We find comfort in knowing that he is at peace and trust that the hosts of heaven have reserved a comfy seat in front of a giant TV just for him. He is loved and will be dearly missed.
