Date of Death: March 02, 2023
Ocean CIty, NJ
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our kind, caring, generous husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, John Patrick Lynch, age 89, of Ocean City, NJ, who passed away on March 2, 2023, after a short battle with cancer. John was born on March 17, 1933 to John and Mary Lynch in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He graduated from LaSalle High School in 1951. After his discharge from the Air Force, he went on to study Mathematics at LaSalle College, graduating in 1960. In 1957, John met Dorothy Sandstrom in Ocean City and they married the following year. They went on to have 8 children, Dan, Donnajean (Bob), Doreen, Terry, Chris (Andrea), Melissa, Allyson (Ed), and Beverly (Oneil). They have 10 grandchildren, Tara, Ashley, Darren, Ian, Hollis, Hailey, Lucas, Isabella, Louis and Sadie, and 4 great grandchildren, Sincere, Ocean, Ellis and Emery, and many nieces and nephews. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy, and all of his children and grandchildren. He is predeceased by his sister, Kathleen. John retired from Boeing in 1998 and he and Dorothy moved full time to their favorite place, Ocean City, NJ. He was very active in his church, St Augustine, as a lecturer, commentator and Eucharistic Minister. He and Dorothy also assisted with wedding rehearsals that were held at St Augustine’s and were active in various fundraising activities. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus and liked to begin each meeting with a joke. He went to Mass daily and stayed after to say the rosary. He leaves behind many good friends who were parishioners there and came to visit him and bring him communion in his final weeks. John loved the Phillies and all sports, traveling (he was always up for a road trip), eating good meals, having a cold beer (or two), spending time at the beach with friends and family, and attending Mass. He completed the crossword puzzle daily and loved all games and puzzles as well as a good joke. His memory will live on in the lives of his wife and children. He will be missed by all of us every day. We hope that the big bar in heaven serves ice cold beer and that they always have the Phillies on the big screen. We miss you. A funeral mass will be held March 18, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St Augustine Church, 1310 Ocean Ave, Ocean City, NJ 08226. (609)399-0648. Interment will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations and memorial contributions may be made to Knights of Columbus KOC council 2560, associated with St. Damien Parish, at Uknight.org. or to St Jude Children’s Hospital at Stjude.org.
