Dorothy K Oldfield “Dottio” April 12, 1927 – November 1, 2021 After 93 years of living life on her own terms and 10 months of challenge, Dottio left this earth from the comfort of her family’s home on Monday November 1st. As requested, she passed with a piece of Lindt milk chocolate in her mouth and Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again” playing in the background. Dottie was the multi decade winner of “The Gold Star of Independence” and inspired all of us with her energy, quick wit, impeccable housekeeping and her get up and go (somewhere, anywhere) attitude. She was born and raised in “The Oranges” where she later met her husband of nearly 50 years at the Edison Factory. Together, she and Johnny O raised two daughters, Nancy and Kathy and many eyebrows with their numerous pranks and shenanigans. After many years in West Orange, she lived in Cedar Grove, Pennington and Toms River always finding a tribe of friends to laugh, lunch and gamble with. Her lifelong friend since kindergarten, Lois, also passed this year leaving her as “the winner”. Dottie was pre-deceased by her loving husband, John Oldfield and daughter, Nancy Valvano in quick succession in 1996/1997 leaving her with a palpable hole in her heart. She is survived by her daughter Kathryn Oldfield and daughter -in-law, Karin Nieuwenhuis, Grandchildren: Brienne Valvano of Randolph, Alicia Valvano of Bloomfield, Tess Oldfield of Providence RI, and Tim Nieuwenhuis of Baltimore, MD. Great Grandchildren: Tyler, Alexander and Lily and Nephews, John Rappaport (Yvonne), Steve Deignan (Deborah) and Chuck Rappaport and son-in-law, Barry. Dottie was also pre-deceased by her parents, Katherine Daire and Edward Rappaport, Siblings and their spouses: Edward “Rookie” Rappaport (Anna Mae) , Ann “Wee Wee” Bell (Kenny), Margaret “Peggy” Deignan (Frank), Charles “Chally” Rappaport, Niece, Patricia Deignan and Nephew, Edward Rappaport. The family would like to thank the many caregivers whose loving hands carried her through her final months. We will gather in remembrance and gratitude on Saturday, November 27th at 11:30 AM in “The Parlor” at Christ Episcopal Church in Newton, NJ.
