Date of Death: March 18, 2024

Pittsburgh, PA

Mary Lorraine Mateer, nee Contardi, peacefully united with Jesus Monday morning, March 18, 2024, at the age of 88. Lorraine was born in Universal, PA, had two siblings, Kenneth Contardi and Vivian (Vogel), and graduated from Penn Hills High School. Lorraine had two daughters, Denise (Hughes) and Daisha (Ellis), to her first husband, and in 1990 married William Mateer Jr., adding to her family a step-daughter Deborah (Ventura) and step-son, William III. Lorraine lived a happy, productive life with Bill in Murrysville, PA, for over 30 years. Lorraine had 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. During her first marriage, she worked at Casey's Pizza Shop, yet homemaking was always her main occupation. She created amazing meals, baked and decorated elaborate cakes, sewed everything from window coverings to doll and people clothes, taught herself to play the organ and composed music, a family favorite being the song honoring her parents for their golden anniversary. She grew vegetables, herbs, and flowers wherever she lived, and her favorite colors were leopard print, anything that sparkled, and purple; however, her overriding passion was bringing souls to Jesus after she accepted Him in her 40's. Lorraine even witnessed to an obscene phone caller ("I can't help you, but I know someone Who can. Let me tell you about Jesus...") She and Bill became ordained ministers through Greater Works Outreach in Monroeville, PA, where they both attended church services and seminars, often more than once weekly, for years. A private Celebration of Life luncheon will be held at John Anthony's, a favorite meeting place of hers. The family asks if anyone is so moved, donations can be made in her memory to the Christian Broadcasting Network (cbn.com) or to the Trump 2024 Presidential Campaign (donaldjtrump.com) in accordance with Lorraine's wishes.
