Date of Death: July 21, 2024
Kissimmee, FL
LaQuita Yvonne Lanier was born April 9, 1955, in Richmond, VA, to the late Robert Lanier and Florine Lanier. She was the youngest of four children. LaQuita was raised by a loving family, educated, and learned the teachings of her Christian faith at Second Baptist Church West End in Richmond. In 1973, LaQuita graduated from John Marshall High School. After graduation, Laquita worked at the Hermitage Retirement Home and studied at Virginia Commonwealth College to become a medical assistant. In 1977, Laquita Lanier and James Nicholas II were married. They made Los Angeles, California, their home for a short time, and later, they moved back to Virginia. Their union produced two children, Danielle Nicholas and James Nicholas III. Unfortunately, the marriage ended in divorce. Her son, affectionately known as Jimmy, preceded her in death on July 16, 2005, which broke La Quita’s heart. LaQuita had a gentle spirit and a heart of gold. Always remembering birthdays, she enjoyed sending loving cards and messages. Watching Hallmark Channel movies and enjoying a meal at Golden Corral with family and friends gave her great pleasure. When overcome with health issues, she rarely complained, keeping her quiet demeanor. LaQuita was a devoted friend who kept up with her friends for many decades. At age 69 at HCA Poinciana Hosptial in Kissimmee, FL, LaQuita went peacefully home to be with her Lord on Sunday, July 21, 2024. LaQuita is survived by her daughter, Danielle Nelson (Ira); grandchildren, Dennis Nicholas Bryant, Alexis Bryant, John Farrar Jr., Alyssa Nicholas, Cherish Nicholas, and Jeremiah Pickett; brothers Walter Lanier (Sylvia), Robert Lanier (Joslyn), Willie Lanier (Barbara), and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other family members. We will miss you, LaQuita, but we will cherish the wonderful memories you have given us.
