Jeanne Marie Boland 1-11-61 to 12-4-24 Jeanne Marie Boland, of Scranton and Bear Creek Township, PA, age 63, passed away peacefully at The Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains, NJ where she was a patient since June 2024, following a valiant 19-month battle with Glioblastoma. Jeanne was born in Scranton and was the daughter of William Francis Boland, Jr. and Margaret Grace Sokalsky Boland, predeceased by both. Jeanne attended Scranton schools and graduated from Scranton Central High School with academic honors. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Johns Hopkins University and obtained a master’s degree from The New Brunswick Theological Seminary. Jeanne lived an eclectic and colorful life. She loved all things mid-century modern and vintage, having acquired a large collection. She had lived in Baltimore, Manhattan, Astoria, and Scranton. Her many careers included legal secretary, bass player in a punk rock band, Pastor of Steinway Reformed Church, hospitality recruiter, and Avon Lady. In 2010, Jeanne returned to Scranton to take care of her aging parents. She reconnected with a friend from her NYC days, Eric Keil, and their friendship blossomed into a beautiful relationship, and he became the great love of her life. They were engaged to be married when Jeanne received her devastating diagnosis. Eric remained staunchly at her side throughout Jeanne’s arduous battle. A devoted daughter, sister, aunt and pet mom, nothing meant more to Jeanne than her family and pets. She is survived by her fiancé, Eric Keil, of Bear Creek Township, and his two children, Louisa Keil Moss (Hunter) and Travis Keil, her sisters Cheryl Brazen (Richard), Marcia Schloesser (Eddy) and Lisa Boland (James Post), her best friend, Margo Kornfeld, and several nieces and nephews. Predeceasing her are her sister, Patricia Aldrich and her husband William Aldrich, Sr. Additionally, she leaves behind her two rescued cats, along with Eric’s cat and two dogs. The family wants to thank the staff of Memorial Sloan Kettering (Manhattan and Basking Ridge) and the staff at Center for Hope, especially Wendy, who took loving care of her and was supportive to the family. In accordance with her wishes, Jeanne’s earthly body has been cremated. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will be held at a future date.
